Established in 2002, the Knysna Yacht Company has established itself as one of the world’s leading boutique manufacturers of sailing catamarans and their latest iteration – the Knysna 500SE – is adding kudos to that reputation.
‘Our vessels are engineered by one of the finest naval architects around – Angelo Lavranos – but where we separate ourselves from the pack, is in our methodology. We believe in a highly-customised approach so that interior layouts and décor absolutely reflect the unique needs of our customers. There is definitely not a one size fits all approach with us,’ says Kynsna Yacht Company founder Kevin Fouche.
The Knysna 500SE is a sleek, sporty 50-foot yacht with an arresting profile and presented in a variety of brilliant finishes. Ultimate comfort, luxury and sailing performance come as standard equipment. As with most craft built in South Africa, the entire Knysna range are built to be robust and fully competent and reliable in the some of the most challenging sea conditions on the planet.
The 500SE comes with a bevy of standard equipment, including, among a long list of other items; 360° canopy, electric winches for short-handed sailing, compass, chartplotter, radio and weather station, tender halyard and twin 57-HP Yanmar diesel engines.
Two of these vessels are under construction and will shortly be joining the other 16 that are sailing in places around the world, with a further two build slots sold.
‘We are excited to be exhibiting at the Cape Town International Boat Show again this year and, even more exciting, is that we’ll be bringing a recently-launched 500 with us. As a boutique builder we only produce a certain number of craft every year. There are limited slots available for 2018 delivery and we are looking at a number of the 2019 launchings already taken,’ says Fouche. ‘If you’re in the market for one of our customised models it would make a lot of sense to attend the Boat Show and chat to us.’
